This year God has pushed me all the way out of my comfort zone to trust Him FULLY. Like not with just the small stuff, not just once in a while but like every second of the day and with BIG STUFF, like my rent. Most of you may be like “How are you not trusting Him to get your rent?” Well I’m a freelancer and up until the end of last year I had a part-time job that fully covered my rent. When my hours were cut significantly, my trust and faith were tested. I’m not going to lie I was panicking, I was doing everything I thought I should to figure out “What to do?” Continue reading “Trusting God”
Dear Brown Girl,
Why are you weeping? Your tears of inadequacies are warranted as the world tells you your skin is too dark, your nose is too wide, your lips are too big and your hair is unruly. You cry for the lack of seeing those who look like you in ads, magazines, movies and television. Your tears are valid and necessary but I am here to tell you, you won’t be crying long. Continue reading “Dear Brown Girl…”
A few months ago KRS Hair Group sent me the Knatural Course 16″/18″/20″ Wig from their Knappy Hair Extensions Collection. The first time I wore it, I didn’t know exactly what I was doing but I was in love with it. I styled it with a flat twist out to make it wavy. But as my friend pointed out later I had to leave out some of my own hair. I tried that on Halloween and it was a strong NO. So recently I saw another friend get her bangs cut so I was like I can do that with the wig, Bangs = No Leave Out! I cut the bangs myself and I think it turned out pretty good.
Fall has “officially” arrived here in New York. It was a bit touch and go there for a moment. With fall comes more layers and chankier knits. I’ve put together 4 looks that are sure to up your fall wardrobe for any occasion. I hope this will get you in the mood for fall and give you a bit of inspritation.
Thursday marked one week since I decided to go vegan. My decision was mainly sparked by a documentary I watched on Netflix, What the Health. There were many compelling studies and facts which concluded that plant based diets are the best for humans. There were a few in particular that resonated with me. I won’t get into them here as I would want you to watch and make your own decision. This documentary coupled with one I watched a few years ago, Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, convinced me it was time to make a change.
Last week I was invited to the Maison Jules Christmas Party. The event was at Interface in Midtown. Christmas music played while we enjoyed drinks, small bites, a snowy photo booth and a few gifts. Maison Jules gifted us with sweaters and complimentary monogramming by Daphney. There was also a tote with iron patches station and Christmas cards. While everyone mingled and sipped their drinks I walked around waiting for my friend to show up and he never did. One thing about me is that I hate being at parties by myself. I know I know I need to get better, stop being anti social, network, blah, blah, blah. So I of course was caught at the party on my phone. It’s my escape, cop out and default. Luckily I did meet a guy who was working the party that I had seen in the play SOMEDAY. He looked really familiar but I did’t know why then it clicked, that’s probably why I was on my phone in the photo above. Any who in the end I did do some networking because I spoke briefly to him about my non profit and we’re seeing how his organization and mine can partner together. So I’m getting better, baby steps. All in all it was a good time on a Tuesday night. Be sure to check out their cute sweaters and full line at Macy’s.
